Florence Crittenton Family Services Enters a New Chapter with Launch of Training Institute and Strategic Organizational Growth

Florence Crittenton Family Services is entering an important new chapter—one defined by growth, stability, and an expanded vision for how the organization supports families and communities across Montana.

Over the past several years, Florence Crittenton has continued to grow and evolve, even through some of the most challenging times. The organization has expanded services, strengthened programs, and deepened its commitment to families—building momentum that has positioned it for the next step forward.

Introducing the Florence Crittenton Training Institute

As part of this next chapter, Florence Crittenton is proud to formally launch the Florence Crittenton Training Institute (FCTI)—a natural extension of its mission and decades of experience supporting vulnerable families.

FCTI is designed to support professionals across Montana and beyond, including those in behavioral health, healthcare, education, child welfare, law enforcement, first response, military, and other helping fields. Through real life stories and practical, trauma-informed training and consulting services, the Institute equips professionals with tools to address stress, secondary trauma, and burnout—strengthening the very systems that serve children, families, and our communities as a whole.

By investing in those who care for others, Florence Crittenton is expanding its impact far beyond its direct services—reaching communities across the state and helping create more resilient systems of care.

“The Training Institute is such an exciting addition to Florence Crittenton’s history and service array. For over 125 years we have continued to evolve in a way that could serve the most vulnerable in our communities. As we saw the incredible strain put on caregivers and those in the helping fields over the last 6+ years, we saw an opportunity to take what we know about the effects of secondary trauma and share that knowledge and tools further into our communities.”  said Carrie Krepps, Chief Executive Officer.

Investing in a Strong Foundation

This growth has been made possible, in part, through continued investment in Florence Crittenton’s campus, affectionately known as Project Sunshine.

The campus has become central to the organization’s progress—bringing programs together, improving access to care, and creating a more stable, supportive environment for families. As the project nears completion, it represents a critical milestone in ensuring long-term sustainability and operational strength.

Structure for the Future

As Florence Crittenton’s programs, campus, and reach have expanded, the organization and its Board of Directors have taken thoughtful steps to ensure its structure can support that growth. This includes the restructure to create an executive level of the organization to oversee all companies included in the Florence Crittenton family: Florence Crittenton Family Services (direct programs), FCTI, Florence Crittenton Foundation and the new campus.  The restructure included the addition of a Chief Executive Officer role, which the board has named Carrie Krepps, current Executive Director, to guide long-term strategy, oversight and alignment, partnerships, and expansion across the Florence Crittenton’s multiple organizations. For more details on the restructure visit the Florence Crittenton website at www.florencecrittenton.org.

As part of this evolution, Florence Crittenton will also launch a search for a new Executive Director of Family Services, a role focused on day-to-day operations, program leadership, and continued excellence in direct service delivery.

Collette Hanson, Board President said ,“Our mission has always been to respond to the needs of our community, and today we are taking an important step forward by expanding the services we provide through the Florence Crittenton Training Institute. The Board is also pleased to announce the promotion of Carrie Krepps to Chief Executive Officer, a role that reflects the expanded scope of our organization and the confidence we have in her ability to lead us into this exciting new chapter.”

Continuing Our Commitment

While Florence Crittenton is excited about what’s ahead, its core commitment remains unchanged: supporting families with compassion, consistency, and high-quality care.

Everything being built—from the Training Institute to campus improvements to leadership growth—is rooted in a single goal: ensuring the organization can continue to show up for families now, and for generations to come.

Florence Crittenton is a thriving organization, well-positioned for the future and committed to creating lasting impact for children, families, and communities across Montana.
