The Parents as Teachers (PAT) mission is to provide the information, support and encouragement parents need to help their children develop optimally during the crucial early years of life.  The Florence Crittenton Home and Services’ First Years Initiative PAT Parent Educator will utilize the PAT curriculum to provide in-home services for families referred by Child and Family services, by empowering the caregiver with education, tools, skills, support, and experiences to enrich family success.

Parents as Teachers is an internationally recognized evidence-based home visitation program based on the latest cutting-edge research around brain development. This research indicates the first three years of life are the most critical period for human brain development, and the experiences children are exposed to in those first three years have major impact on their potential success in relationships, education, and even careers throughout their lives. The program consists of 4 components: Personal Home Visits; Group Meetings; Screening; and Resource Networking.

  • Hold a maximum caseload of 19 families who have been referred for PAT home visiting services by DPHHS Child Protective Services (CPS)
  • Work closely and maintain a partnership with DPHHS CPS to ensure communication regarding client progress is being made and family receives exceptional services
  • Attend all First Years Initiative (FYI) related team meetings, workgroups, trainings, either formal or informal as requested and needed
  • Provide client data for DPHHS Healthy Montana Families (HMF) and CFS agencies as requested in a timely and comprehensive manner
  • Maintain accurate client records in accordance with agency and funding source requirements; client data should be reported immediately upon return from visit to ensure accuracy of data and to ensure data is entered timely
  • Attend and participate in all FCHS PAT Partnership meetings
  • Work closely with other PAT home visitors
  • Participate in all FCHS staff meetings
  • Attend and participate in all required and requested PAT model and related trainings
  • Participate in active skill building and maintain working knowledge of trauma – responsive practices
  • Actively research most recent evidence based interventions, programs and practices with families and youth of all backgrounds; with focus on LGBTQ families/youth, minority, at risk, and underserved populations
  • Treat participating clients with dignity and respect
  • Collaborate with community partners to enhance services for participating clients
  • Collaborate with the Lewis and Clark County Health Department (LCCCHD) to implement PAT Home Visiting model; including but not limited to paperwork, model guidelines, data system documentation, and grant report information
  • Staff meetings, continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities with Florence Crittenton, LCCCHD and Montana Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting Program – Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services.
  • Complete all required FCHS, PAT, and MIECHV-MT DPHHS, and any requested trainings
  • Conduct initial visit with the clients to begin trust building
  • Conduct individual home visits with clients on a schedule consistent with the PAT model requirements throughout the client’s enrollment in the program.
  • Document services and referral provided at each visit and follow up on referrals
  • Conduct screenings and assessments with clients, using the tools and schedule identified by MT DPHHS and retain screening results in the client’s record.
  • Make referrals when appropriate following Mandated Reporter guidelines
  • Plan, promote, and facilitate a minimum of 12 innovative PAT group connections with other PAT home visitor across the program year
  • Maintain PAT group records of planning, delivery, and demographics
  • Communicate with Program Manager regularly in person, via telephone, and email
  • Attend and participate in weekly reflective supervision meetings
  • Travel required

• Have basic working knowledge of trauma-informed practices

• Bachelor or Associate’s degree in Social Work; Human Services field or related field; AND 2 years’ experience with young children and families as a home visitor; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis.
• A valid driver’s license, satisfactory background check and a health statement are required for all employees at the Florence Crittenton Home and Services.
• Must provide own vehicle, have a clean driving record and provide proof of vehicle liability insurance.
• PAT Parent Educator must be able to:
o Exert up to 30 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body
o Remain in a stationary position (sit, stand, etc.) for extended periods of time
o Position self (stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, climb, balance etc.) for extended periods of time
o Identify, recognize, react and respond to all emergencies and perform repetitive motions of wrists, hands and/or fingers
o Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
