National Day Without Childcare

Florence Crittenton Supports National Day Without Childcare

The National and Montana Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) are launching a national “Day Without Childcare” on Monday, May 9th. The day is meant to recognize the incredible burden the lack of childcare creates for families, businesses, our children, and our communities. Childcare programs across Montana and the country will be opening late or closing early, while holding rallies during this time, to shine a light on the disparities in equitable childcare and the need for higher reimbursement rates to provide quality childcare to all.

Due to the organization’s already reduced hours the last 3 months due to workforce shortages, Florence Crittenton will not change our hours on this day. We can say with certainty these reduced hours have been difficult for the families we serve and that changes in funding structures are imperative to bringing back our workforce and expanding our childcare openings.

The NAEYC notes, “We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to acknowledge the incredible value that caregiving and caregivers add to our economy, help create jobs and employment with a living wage, and support families. It is time to value people who help us provide the care that keeps our country running. Every child and family deserve access to high-quality, affordable child care, to be able to put food on the table, and to save for their futures.”

Florence Crittenton supports the NAEYC advocacy for increased funding specifically for childcare on the local, state and federal level to better meet the need for childcare providers and parents in our community. Florence Crittenton Director of Early Childhood Services states, “Our center strives to provide the best possible care for every child and family, but without a transformational investment into childcare, we will continue to struggle to retain staff, keep our prices affordable, and maintain compliance with licensing requirements. We hope the Helena community will join us in solidarity as we stand up for change for our children and families.”
