Before arriving at Florence Crittenton I was a mess and had made a lot of really bad choices. I was sixteen, a runaway, sleeping on the streets, on probation, refusing mental health treatment, using drugs, not attending school, not eating well and was abused by men. Then I became pregnant.
Florence Crittenton saved my life. I am clean of drugs, receiving therapy, doing volunteering, working at a local bakery, learning to be a really good mom and now I want to start studying for a bachelor’s degree. I have the most beautiful baby boy you have ever laid eyes on and he is safe and happy.
Jessica has been at Florence Crittenton for 7 months. She will continue to heal in our program for a further 8-12 months. In Jessica’s mothers words, “I cannot thank Florence Crittenton enough. Nor could I say what an outstanding group program this is. I am forever indebted.”
Before I came to Florence Crittenton I was 15 and living with my boyfriend who was abusive to me. As much as I knew it was wrong I didn’t have the strength to walk away. I was taking drugs, drinking and not going to school. My life was crazy but I knew if I carried on like this I would end up in jail or dead.
When I found out I was pregnant I realized I had to change for my babies sake as well as mine. I knew it would be tough, and it was tougher than I thought. With therapy, treatment for my mental health problems, love and the support of the other girls at the home I was able to make the changes I needed to. The family therapy has really helped me work things out with my parents and I know I can be a good mom to my daughter.
I stayed at Florence Crittenton for 18 months. I learnt so much while I was there and although it was hard it was good to leave my family and the people around me that has such a hold on me. I am so thankful, in many ways you saved my life.
