Before I came to Florence Crittenton I was 15 and living with my boyfriend who was abusive to me. As much as I knew it was wrong I didn’t have the strength to walk away. I was taking drugs, drinking and not going to school. My life was crazy yet I knew if I carried on like this I would end up in jail or dead.
When I found out I was pregnant I realized I had to change for my baby's sake as well as mine. I knew it would be tough, and it was tougher than I thought. With therapy, treatment for my mental health problems, love and the support of the staff and other girls at the home I was able to make the changes I needed to. The family therapy has really helped me work things out with my parents and I know I can be a good mom to my daughter.
I stayed at Florence Crittenton for 18 months. I learnt so much while I was there and although it was hard it was good to leave my family and the people around me that has such a hold on me. I am so thankful, in many ways you saved my life.
