Child Development Center

Studies have long shown that infants of adolescent mothers have an increased incidence of low birth weight, prematurity, developmental disabilities and poorer developmental outcomes that the children of older mothers.  Deficits in cognitive and social development in the children of teen mothers may persist long into adolescence and when compared with older mothers tend to vocalize, touch and smile at their infants less, to be less sensitive to and accepting of their infants’ behavior and to hold less realistic developmental expectations.

For this reason the environment of our child development center and daycare is extremely important.  The setting provides an opportunity for these little ones to receive the additional nurturing and stimulation that will help their cognitive and physical development.

The Center is housed on site and enables the girls to continue their education or seek employment safe in the knowledge that their baby is receiving the best possible care.  The Center is operated as an independent entity so that our moms learn to negotiate the procedures of a normal daycare in readiness for when they leave the home.
