Florence Crittenton Rehabilitation Counselors provide therapeutic supervision to clients, monitor and maintain order in the home and assist clinical staff as needed. Assure adherence to state statutes and rules, COA standards, and federal regulations including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2. Positively represents the organization and promotes Florence Crittenton’s mission to the community.
- Therapeutic supervision of clients and client activities, including recreational activities that support healthy family living and parenting support.
- Models appropriate parenting interactions including promoting attachment and supporting exploration within the child’s appropriate developmental stage. If the client is not able to provide adequate supervision/support to their dependent child, the Rehabilitation Counselor will model appropriate parenting, and provide support to help the client be successful. Rehabilitation Counselors will model healthy family living and activities between the client and their child/ren. It is likely that when a client first enters the program, the parenting support from staff will be greater with the intention that the client will take on more of the direct parenting role as she progresses through the program.
- Actively involved in facilitating therapeutic activities and interventions that help sustain sober, healthy living as designed by the team.
- Facilitates daily structure and routine that supports rehabilitation as outlined by the Clinical Team.
- Actively involved in team decisions and communicates to clients directly as part of the team in a way that supports the client’s recovery journey.
- Follows weekly sober family living and healthy life activities curriculum as designated by the Clinical Team.
- Remains in the program area interacting with clients directly (not the office space) unless overseeing client’s self-administration of medication during scheduled medication times or completing documentation during scheduled Rehabilitation Counselor documentation times.
- Completes all required documentation thoroughly and in a timely manner prior to the end of each shift. If an emergency arises during shift and more documentation is required to be completed, it is expected that the Rehabilitation Counselor responsible for that documentation will remain on shift to complete the documentation before leaving FCHS premises.
- Report all incidents, unusual events and emergencies immediately to the supervisor on duty and in accordance with Mandatory Reporting laws and FCHS’s policies and procedures.
- Assures that Activities of Daily Life Charts (ADL Charts) are utilized appropriately to document client care issues, ensuring that each treatment goal is charted on complete with the therapeutic interventions used by staff and progress made on each goal during the shift. These charts should highlight the client’s recovery through documenting on a variety of outlined goals.
- Monitor all visitors and assure that no contraband is brought into the facility by visitors or clients.
- Administer drug screen protocol for clients as appropriate.
- Attend all scheduled staff meetings and in-services and be an active participant (see training section below)
- Supervise food preparation and completion of home beautification. If clients are not able to complete these tasks, staff will model completion of these activities.
- Prepare meals and snacks according to the provided and approved menu.
- Maintain overall cleanliness and organization of house. Complete inventory and stock supplies as needed.
- Complete bed checks every 30 minutes if client/child is not in the milieu to ensure client welfare.
- Oversee client self-administration of medications.
- Follow guidelines under code of conduct section in employee handbook.
- Monitor client breaks from the milieu area.
- Support clients in having access to regular physical activity by taking them for supported walks, outside time, or to the gym for activity.
- Perform home beautification/housekeeping tasks, as assigned.
- Complies with regular, predictable and reliable attendance.
- Transport clients to outside activities (appointments as designated and/or approved/planned recreational activities) in a safe and prudent manner observing all driving laws and FCHS’s policies and maintain driving logs.
- Assure all incident report forms are filled out according to FCHS’s policies.
- Become familiar with emergency procedures.
- Attends mandatory monthly training, weekly brush-up trainings in weekly mandatory staff meetings, and one-to-one training/supervision as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor; and
- Continuing training on co-occurring treatment, substance use disorders, de-escalation, trauma-responsiveness and family-centered treatment.
Education, Experience, Attributes and Licensing Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of mental health, trauma, substance abuse, family-centered treatment, client-centered treatment, and recovery;
- general familiarity with primary Axis I and II diagnoses; with family system dynamics;
- thorough knowledge of community-based resources and process of referral; of ethical performance standards and their application;
- knowledge of laws and administrative rules relevant to chemical dependency and confidentiality;

- A valid driver’s license, satisfactory background check and a health statement are required for all employees at the Florence Crittenton Home and Services
Experience and Education
Must be at least 21 years of age. The above job responsibilities and qualifications are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school, or having completed a GED, or having had prior experience working within the field of mental health, substance abuse/addiction and or parenting support. An Associate’s degree in Mental Health or pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or a related field is preferred but not required. If recovering, applicant must have had a minimum of three years of abstinences within a recovery program. Must have current CPR/First Aide training. Must have a satisfactory tuberculosis test before first day of work. Must have good driving record and insurability along with a valid driver’s license.
- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the Residential Counselor to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- While performing the duties associated with this job, the staff must be able to:
- exert up to 30 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body;
- remain in a stationary position (sit, stand, etc.) for extended periods of time;
- Position self (stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, climb, balance etc.) for extended periods of time;
- identify, recognize, react and respond to all emergencies;
- and perform repetitive motions of wrists, hands and/or fingers;
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
