>> Click here for an update!

The girls, babies, staff, volunteers and donors of the Florence Crittenton Home held a Grand Garden Opening this Friday.  The garden has been made possible thanks to direction from Florence Crittenton’s Jane Bucks and the outstanding enthusiasm and 2 AmeriCorps*VISTA volunteers, Kathryn Hutchinson of AERO and Rachel Conn of WEEL who help coordinate neighborhood gardens in Helena.

“Gardening really is therapeutic and offers the girls at the home an opportunity to learn a useful life skill as well as getting the satisfaction out of seeing the fruits of their labor.  It also encourages healthy living,” said Jane Bucks, Florence Crittenton therapeutic staff person and garden project lead.

Major contributors include Helena Sand and Gravel, Chadwicks Nursery, Lowe’s and ExplorationWorks.  Volunteers included Jane and Dan Bucks, Kathryn Hutchinson, Rachel Conn, Growing Community Volunteers Mike Hanshew, Cristina & Nancy Jardon, Trevor Alton, Richard and Marty Thieltges, Armen Hidalgo and Montana Conservation Corps representatives, Anneliese Ranzoni and Nicolas Sorner.

The opening was a celebration of everyone’s hard work and dedication.  The amazing Playhouse Raffle that Florence Crittenton has been selling tickets for this summer was also presented to Corey and Heidi Hill and their two kids.

“There’s going to be a lot of things growing in this garden, not just plants” said Barbara Burton, Executive Director.   “Young moms, babies and toddlers can all participate in the miracle of growth and change and reflect on their own life journey.”

The Florence Crittenton Home provides therapeutic residential care to pregnant and parenting young women aged 12 to 21.   Many of the girls served have experienced multiple personal challenges.  Our treatment includes 24 hour care within a loving environment, intensive therapy, parenting classes and emphasises the need for a strong bond between mother, child and extended family enabling healing to occur and creating healthy relationships.
