
ANNUAL GIVING OFFICER
INTRODUCTION:Â The Annual Giving Officer oversees philanthropic giving from individual donors, civic clubs
and religious organizations. S/he builds relationships with these audiences and acts as the
liaison between Florence Crittenton and them. The position requires an enthusiastic self-starter who has excellent writing, people and
leadership skills and who can work independently as well as in a team. Development
experience in an educational or nonprofit organization is essential. Travel required, 20-30%.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Â
Individual Giving Program
Write appeals and acknowledgements, segmenting donor lists a much as possible
(Believer’s Circle; geographic/special interests/age demographics, etc.
)
Ensure that best practices are being implemented in acknowledging all gifts. This
includes tracking increased gifts, new donors, lapsed donors, etc. Determining
correct method of acknowledgment for each case and assigning that to appropriate
staff.
Manage United Way employee giving programs, including tracking gifts and method
for acknowledgment. Act as second liaison to United Way behind Development
Director.
Provide stewardship to large donors (calling when large gifts come in; notifying
solicitors of their donors’ gifts; involving volunteers when applicable).
Arranging statewide travel for self and others to visit donors
-Includes gathering information on donors; setting up visits/or giving
information to appropriate staff to set up visits; soliciting donations for hotel
rooms.
Identify and research potential major donors. Assist in their stewardship, including
making initial calls and setting up meetings.
Planned Giving Program
Identify and research potential planned gift donors. Assist in their stewardship,
including making initial calls and setting up meetings.
Gather materials and information on planned giving options. Create planned giving
informational packet to give to potential donors.
Be aware of tax laws as they affect planned giving.
Civic & Religious Organization Giving
Act as liaison for civic and religious organizations seeking information on the Home.
Work with Volunteer Coordinator to set up one-time volunteer activities at the Home
for these organizations.
Send requests for financial support.
Prepare proposals and applications when applicable.
Set up speaking engagements and tours for self and other staff members.
Write mass appeals (Two Lives at a Time & SISTA campaign) or targeted requests.
In-Kind Giving
Oversee in-kind donation process as a whole. Includes creating and implementing, and
monitoring appropriate policies regarding gifts that can be accepted, timing of gift
acceptance, procedure for recording and acknowledgement of gifts.
Ensure all Crittenton staff members are informed on the right messages regarding in-kind
policies and procedures.
Act as Development staff liaison to the Volunteer Coordinator for Santa’s Helpers
Christmas gift program, ensuring all in-kind policies and procedures are acknowledged.
Events
Support Our Girls (August-September, annually)
- Act as liaison to artists for event, ensuring communication of all expectations, answering questions, and scheduling delivery of finished products.
-Assist with catering and event set-up
Paint the Town Pink (February, annually)
- Raffle chair liaison: initial research and present possible prizes to Development
Director; purchase prizes; compile list of ticket sellers; ensure all sold and unsold
tickets are back to the office before event; manage on-site sales of tickets the
night of the event.
- Catering liaison for the event: solicit bids for catering; schedule tastings;
communicate with catering committee; work with chosen caterer on contracts,
logistics, budgeting. Liaison to caterer night of the event.
-Be familiar with seating chart night of the event and provide stewardship to all
donors with special attention on key donors.
- Work with Development Coordinator to ensure appropriate donors and auction
purchasers are adequately recognized post-event. Ensure all new donors are sent
follow-up information on the Home.
Sneak Pink Events
- Work with individuals to set up small events in the fall leading up to Pink in their
home.
- Work within limited budget and with the individual to set up food, drinks, and
decorations.
- Schedule appropriate staff for attending the event.
- Ensure follow-up with all attendees and appropriate acknowledgement to host.
Communications & Appeals
Oversee creation of mass communication as it relates to development, involving other
key staff in planning and writing. Work with and give direction to designer, printers,
postal service and mailing services. Get bids from vendors and stay within budget.

- Appeals: Two Lives at a Time Campaign (spring); Mother’s Day (spring); Lapsed
Donor (summer); SISTA (fall); Annual Appeal (Nov. – Dec.)
Provide information and writing to grant proposals when needed.
Other Duties
Other duties as assigned by Administrative staff, including Executive Director,
Development Director, and Finance Director.
Assist with/take on special fundraising opportunities as assigned.
Provide monthly reports on development activities and progress.
Work together with staff and board members in accomplishing all fundraising goals,
including foundation and corporate granting and public/governmental funding projects.
Work together with all staff members in overall management of the organization,
including Marketing, Program Services and Administration.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, ATTRIBUTES AND LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

Experience and Education
• Bachelor's or Associate’s degree, or high school diploma and minimum of 5 years
experience in development/fundraising.
• Experience in event planning preferred, but not required.
Salary and Benefits
• $15-16/hour, depending on experience
• A valid driver’s license, satisfactory background check and a health statement are
required for all employees at the Florence Crittenton Home and Services. After
qualifying period, benefits include: payment toward single rate health insurance,
retirement, vision and dental available, paid vacation/holidays, sick leave, and
personal time.
